The nexus 5 came out in 2013, and this was one of the best phones of that year, the reason being was because this was a phone that google helped produce. Looking around the body you can tell that this phone isn’t perfect by any means, it’s got scratches all over the place, but let me tell you this is probably the best looking android phone in the history of phones. its just so simple. and the circular headpiece was just so good to look at but for the longest time I confused that as the front facing camera.
Turning on the phone we’re presented with a full Hd display, it’s pretty sharp, but since it’s a nexus, if you root it and throw a custom kernel on it you can easily modify the temperature of the colors and what not through some apps, It’s also running Android 7.1 through a custom rom that I threw on it, but it officially got discontinued at android 6.0. it’s got some glitches I’m not going to lie, but overall its not that bad, considering this phone came out almost 4 years ago kind of makes sense about the speed situation.
But the overall speed on this thing is still pretty good, it has a Quad Core processor clocked in at 2.2 GHz, which isn’t a speed demon by any means, but if your interested in this phone your probably looking into saving money more than performance of the phone.
Now heres the bummer, it has a 2300 mah battery which is pretty sad, it has wireless charging but if you plan on using this phone for a while then you might want to bring a charger with you or something, standby time is pretty solid and since its running pretty much stock android it won’t be too bad, but on heavier usage days it probably won’t finish up the day. The worst part about it is if you were to get it used (which is probably how you would buy it now a days) the battery has deteriorated enough so it’s not really a 2300mah anymore, its more like 1800mah.
The cameras apparently weren’t good on this thing but I beg to differ, I think their pretty good, it’s no great and I wouldn’t trade a dslr for this, but for everyday shooting it wasn’t that bad, but I heard for such a long time that it had a bad camera, maybe my expectations are low, the front camera is 1.3 mp so its okay, it will take selfies that are okay outside, but don’t even think about taking lowlight selfies with this camera.
So is the Nexus 5 worth it in 2017? I say this all the time but Yeah it is, it’s so cheap now like I got mine for like $70 and it still has a bunch of life left in it and you can even root and modify this thing, there are huge development communities behind this phone so if it isn’t your daily phone, it would make a pretty dope backup
